Anybody who knows me as more than a Facebook friend probably knows I heart cake. I really do. I’m a sucker for it. I never make or buy a cake because I know I’ll eat …

Review: Terra Mia Ristorante in Orem

Offering an alternative to the typical Provo indie restaurant scene, Terra Mia in Orem is a low-key Italian restaurant supplying authentic pizzas, pastas, and desserts including ZaZa gelato.

With a set-up similar to Guru’s cafe on Center Street in Provo (order and pay at a cash register, take a number and wait for your food), the atmosphere is simple and the service is laid-back with a fancy Italian twist.  A well-lit, open space with large canvas photos of Italy hanging on the tall walls, the restaurant has a welcoming vibe. Most spectacular was a square bar in the center of the room, wrapping around a tree growing right through it.

I ordered what was recommended to me, the Terra Mia pizza. I was satisfied with the thin crust and chicken pieces, frustrated at the slipperiness of the fork and knife experience, and thrilled with the delicious pine nuts and spicy pepperoni. At six slices for $11.95, it wasn’t a bad deal for me and a friend. Had she wanted pasta and I the pizza, things would have been tricky since the menu offers only one size of pizza, which is too big for one. Zaza’s gelato was as delicious as Maestro’s (also on Center in Provo) but dished more generously for a similar price ($4 – $5).

Overall I was fairly pleased but not thrilled. It’s worth a try, but don’t set your expectations too high.

Your review is a fair attempt at journalism. One thing you failed to mention is anything about the owners of Terra Mia. After serving a mission in Italy I will tell you that this pizza is as authentic as you will get anywhere in Utah county.

If you go in expecting American pizza, you will be sorely disappointed. Here, you get the Italian experience. You must not be a heavy eater, because almost any guy could put one of these down without too much work.

If you want legit Italian pizza, go to Terra Mia
