Miley’s in an Rated ‘R’ movie, say what???
In order to help you from over excitement or hype, I will tell you straight ahead the punch line, showing that I have no intention of misleading you.
If you haven’t heard about it, Disney’s favorite sometimes rock star and sometimes tween idol, Miley Cyrus is going to be in a rated ‘R’ movie. It is merely a cameo, and she will be doing nothing questionable.
From a girl who’s stirred up so much controversy in the past few years, none of us would be surprised that she would accept a movie role of a less than savory nature, but she hasn’t … yet.
The movie is ‘Sex and the City 2′, a sequel to the movie based on a TV show that I really don’t think should have ever been created.
According to an article on popeater.com, in the scene the character Samantha will be at an event wearing the same dress as Miley Cyrus who will be playing herself.
Wow. I’m appalled just writing that. Can you imagine?
The thing that appalled me most about the article was the headline. It reads, “Is Miley Cyrus Too Young for ‘Sex?’” Do you see why I freaked out? That title lead me to conclusions and got me all hyped up about apparently nothing. But the darn writers on the article weren’t gonna tell me that.
Why not? Because journalists are shameless for writing tricky headlines that suck you into their story and because they want to have readers.
I am guilty of it myself. I gave this very blog a title that will hopefully get me some readers. Hopefully it won’t be changed by my editor. Hopefully it’ll get into the teaser on the front page of the Daily Universe. (Did you know they do that? Check for yourself!) Probably not though, but hey, that’s business.
And journalism is a business. Journalists work for a system, and that system includes subscribers and sponsors who pay the bills.
But that doesn’t take away the fact that misleading titles are annoying.
On another note, what if Miley Cyrus did accept more than just a cameo appearance for a rated ‘R’ film? Kids have appeared in rated ‘R’ movies since there were movie ratings. Anna Paquin won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “The Piano” when she was 11 years old.
If you’re worried that Miley is too young for a romantic lead, think again. Countless teenagers before her have been romantic leads. Keira Knightly was only 17 when she filmed “Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl,” just to name one.
Whether Miley has the ability to get away from her Disney shell and do some serious acting is still up for debate, but her age should not be a barrier.
